August Is The Best Month To Buy These 9 Things | One Good Thing by Jillee

What to Buy in August

August is officially here, even though it seemed like July lasted about a week. But I’m always excited about the beginning of a new month, because that means I share more ways you can save yourself some money!

And even though August is fairly light on official holidays, it is decidedly not light on sales, discounts, and money-saving opportunities. There are plenty of great deals to be had this month, as long as you know where to look!

August Is The Best Month To Buy…

What to Buy in August

1. Swimwear

While you can find good deals on swimwear in the spring, the really good deals don’t start until this month. Stores will be clearing out their stock of swimwear to make room for fall fashions, so it’s a great time to get a new swimsuit for any vacations you’re taking later this year (or to get one for next summer!)

2. Kids’ Clothes & School Supplies

August is back-to-school season, which means you can expect to find great deals on kids’ clothes, shoes, and school supplies. Stores like Target and Walmart tend to offer some of the best prices, but if you’re shopping for several kids or stocking up a classroom, Amazon will likely be your best bet for deals.

3. Air Conditioners

Keep an eye out for great deals on A/C units this month. If yours has been on its last legs this summer, the low prices this month make it a great time to get a new one. August tends to be the hottest month of the summer around here, so there’s still plenty of time to get your money’s worth out of it.

4. Office Supplies & Furniture

Another benefit of all those back-to-school sales are the discounts you can get on office supplies. Whether you need office supplies for your desk at work or furniture for your office at home, keep your eyes peeled for great deals this month.

Back-to-school time is also off-to-college time, so many stores will be offering sales and discounts on dorm-friendly items. However, you don’t have to be decorating your dorm to take advantage of these deals—look for great prices on storage containers, plastic totes, bed linens, microwaves, wall decor, and more.

9. “Holiday” Deals In August

August may be one of the few months without any major holidays, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to celebrate! Here are a few different “holidays” happening this month that may add up to big savings for you:

  • Tax-Free Day/Weekend – About 17 states offer a tax-free day or weekend during the late summer, meant to help parents with their back-to-school shopping. But anyone can take advantage of these events, so check here to see if or when your state is participating.
