I’ve shared dozens and dozens of different homemade beauty solutions over the years, in part because whenever I come across an intriguing beauty DIY, I almost always feel compelled to give it a try and report my findings! (Clearly the journalist in me is still alive and well!) That was certainly the case with the DIY I want to share in today’s post, which immediately appealed to both my practical side and my frugal side.
The basic concept of this DIY is to combine coconut oil and olive oil into a highly moisturizing “beauty mash.” It’s versatile, all-natural, and you can use it to restore moisture to dry skin all over your body (including the the skin on your face!)
It might seem a bit strange to use such an “oily” mixture on your face, but coconut oil and olive oil are both great for skin! The fatty acids in coconut oil have antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties, and it contains beneficial antioxidants that can help prevent premature aging. Some people even claim that coconut oil has helped clear persistent skin conditions like acne and rosacea!
And olive oil makes a great natural moisturizer too. It contains antioxidants like vitamins A and E that can help promote firmer, smoother, and healthier skin. So as you can imagine, combining olive oil and coconut oil together makes for one formidable beauty concoction! :-)
How To Make A DIY Moisturizing Beauty Mash
Ingredients:
- 3 Tbsp coconut oil
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 4-5 drops lavender essential oil (optional)
Directions:
Add the coconut oil and olive oil to a small bowl, then “mash” them together with the back of a spoon or fork. Continue until the mixture achieves a nice, smooth consistency.
If you’d like, you can also stir in a few drops of lavender essential oil for added benefits. Lavender has soothing and anti-inflammatory effects, so it’s great for dry, itchy, or otherwise irritated skin.

Transfer the finished mixture to an airtight container. You can store it in your fridge to keep it firm, or at room temperature for a softer, more spreadable texture. (The mixture will soften up quickly once you put it on your skin, so this is just a matter of preference.)
How To Use Your Moisturizing Beauty Mash
Scoop up a small amount of the mash with your fingers, then apply it to any area of your skin that could use some extra moisture. For extra dry skin, smear a thick layer of the mash over the affected area just before bed. This will give the oils time to soak in overnight so you can wake up to softer, smoother skin! :-)
You can also use your beauty mash to smooth down flyaways, tame unruly brows, and even remove makeup. To remove makeup, scoop a small amount of the mash onto your fingers and massage it gently over your face to dissolve your makeup, then follow with your regular cleanser.
With this double cleansing combo, the mash helps dissolve even stubborn makeup and then the cleanser removes both the mash and makeup residue. You’ll love the way it leaves your skin looking and feeling perfectly clean and moisturized!
