Forget The Linen Closet, Store Your Extra Bedding Here | One Good Thing by Jillee

Sheet Storage Hack

In our house we only have one small storage closet in the hallway that leads back to the bedrooms, so we have use it for several different purposes. Until recently, not only did I store extra linens in that closet, but it also housed cleaning supplies, paper products, office supplies, and more!

With as much stuff as I had crammed into that one tiny closet, it won’t surprise you to learn that it was basically impossible to keep it all organized. But during one of my most recent closet re-organization efforts, I realized a couple of important things.

The first realization was that we had more spare sheets and pillowcases than we really needed (or that anyone really needs). The second realization was that all that bedding was occupying valuable shelf space that I could be using for other purposes.

I was ultimately able to solve both problems at once by making one simple switch! And that’s what today’s post is all about, because I’ll be sharing the brilliant bedding storage hack that helped me solve my closet organization problems.

The first thing I did (which I probably should have done a long time ago) was get rid of most of the extra bedding we had. I decided to keep just one extra set of sheets and pillowcases per bed, but that was only the beginning—the real difference-make was where I ended up storing those sheets!

How To Store Your Bedding Underneath Your Mattress

I decided to move the extra bedding sets and store them under the mattress they belonged to. Not only did this free up a lot of valuable space in my linen closet, but it also ended up being a really convenient system too (but more on that later).

Here’s how you can put this brilliant storage hack to work in your own home!

Step 1 – Fold The Bedding Neatly

Start by folding your sheets as neatly as possible. This will help prevent them from getting wrinkled while they are tucked away.

Step 2 – Stack It All Together

Stack your folded sheets and pillowcases together, or you can make a handy bedding “package.” To do this, slide the folded sheet(s) and one of the pillowcases into the remaining pillowcase to keep them bundled together.

Step 3 – Tuck It Under Your Mattress

Finally, tuck the extra set of bedding between your mattress and box spring. (I recommend putting it near the foot of your bed close to the outiside edge, where it will be easily accessible yet less noticeable.)

And that’s all there is to it! :-)

Why It Works

Not only does this storage hack free up space in your linen closet, but it also keeps your bedding fresh and dust-free! When it’s time to wash your bedsheets, all you have to do is remove the sheets, pull the clean set out from under your mattress, and remake your bed—it doesn’t get much quicker or easier than that!
