Argan, coconut, marula, jojoba… there are so many oils that people tout as the secret to unlocking healthy skin, hair, and nails. It can be hard to keep up with all the information out there, let alone remember which oil is supposed to do what!
But the fact of the matter is that there are a lot of beneficial oils out there, and each has its own unique profile and perks. In my experience, the best way to find the right one(s) for you is to do your research, identify oils that are well suited to your particular hair or skin type, and then give them the ol’ college try!
Today, I want to introduce you to one of my personal favorite oils for beauty and personal care: rosehip oil! It may not be the trendiest or buzziest oil in beauty circles, but for as beneficial as it is for skin (especially aging skin like mine), it might be the secret ingredient you’ve been looking for!

What Is Rosehip Oil?
Rosehip oil comes from the fruit of the wild rose plant, from which it is cold-extracted to retain as many of its beneficial properties as possible. These include:
- Nourishing and strengthening skin
- Soothing dryness and irritation
- Helping to heal blemishes
- Improving the texture and appearance of aging skin over time!
As with any other oil you’d use on your skin, it’s important to make sure you’re using a quality product. Look for pure, 100% rosehip oil to avoid products that have been diluted or loaded with unnecessary fillers.
7 Uses For Rosehip Oil For Better Skin, Hair, And More

1. “Triple Threat” Facial Treatment
Rosehip oil can improve the overall appearance of your skin in three distinct ways—by minimizing the appearance of wrinkles, brightening skin, and helping to prevent blemishes. Its anti-aging effects come from high levels of vitamin C as well as antioxidants, which work together to counter the visible effects of aging.
Rosehip oil can help brighten skin because it contains retinoids like trans-retinoic acid, which help to lighten pigment and give skin a fresh, dewy look. These retinoids also speed up cell maturation and turnover, which can help prevent the formation of blemishse.
Getting a bottle of rosehip oil is like getting a wrinkle cream, a skin brightener, and an acne treatment for the price of one. That’s a win-win-win in my book! :-)

2. Body Treatment
Nourishing fatty acids make rosehip oil an excellent moisturizer for the rest of the skin on your body too! Just rub a few drops onto any dry or itchy patches of skin that are bothering you for instant softness and hydration!
In addition to fatty acids, rosehip oil also has vitamins A and C that can help control inflammation, making it an effective option for improving the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

3. Hair Serum
Struggling with dry hair, split ends, or frizzy flyaways? Apply a pea-sized amount of rosehip oil to the ends of your hair. This makeshift “serum” will make your strands look smooth, silky, and shiny without feeling greasy or weighed down.

4. Foundation Booster
Looking for a dewy complexion without having to worry about ingredients that will clog up your pores? Add a drop of rosehip oil to your foundation before applying to achieve a moisturizing glow that won’t feel heavy or greasy!

5. Eye Makeup Remover
Similar to the way you might have used baby oil in the past, you can use rosehip oil to gently dissolve and remove stubborn eye makeup. The oil is all-natural and non-irritating, and as an added bonus, it will help moisturize the skin around your eyes and help reduce the appearance of fine lines.
For the easiest end-of-day makeup removal routine of your life, pair a bit of rosehip oil with a super-soft microfiber makeup remover cloth.

6. Lip Oil
To moisturize extremely dry or chapped lips, apply rosehip oil directly onto your pout for a quick boost of hydration. If you’re looking for a more intense exfoliating treatment, use it in this DIY lip scrub (my go-to remedy when my lips are really flaky!)

7. Nail And Cuticle Oil
Rosehip oil isn’t just good for your skin and hair—it can benefit your nails and cuticles too! Rub a few drops of the oil onto your nails and cuticles daily, or use it as the carrier oil in this DIY cuticle treatment.
Have you ever used rosehip oil as part of your beauty or skincare routine?
