Christmas Kitchen Decor Ideas
Today I’m going to be showing you around our kitchen and sharing some simple Christmas kitchen decor ideas with you. While I always like to change up our decor from year to year, the actual decor process that I go through is generally the same.
Pick a color scheme.
I always start the decorating process by choosing a color scheme or overall style. While I usually like to use red in our kitchen, I used a lot of red in our Christmas dining room decor this year and decided to go a little more subtle in the kitchen. I used greens, whites, and metallics with dried oranges for a pop of color.
Mix in decor with functional items.
If you have a small kitchen or don’t like a lot of clutter, mix in just a few of your favorite Christmas decor pieces with your regular kitchen items. I added a couple of Christmas trees to our kitchen utensil tray and then added a little faux greenery, dried oranges, and pinecones to tie it into the rest of the kitchen decor.
Decorate a tray.
Trays are perfect for displaying a pretty Christmas vignette – especially in the kitchen. You can use any kind of tray, platter, cutting board, etc. to corral some of your favorite Christmas decor pieces together. This helps to make things more visually appealing and less cluttered as well as making it a lot easier to clean the countertops when needed.
For this vignette, I used a cookie jar and our Mr. and Mrs Claus Rae Dunn mugs for a little hot chocolate bar display. The footed tray was from Decor Steals. I repeated the faux greenery, pinecones, and dried oranges from my other displays for a pop of color and to keep some consistency throughout the kitchen. You can find the gnome hot chocolate bar labels HERE.
Display a printable or other artwork.
Art work is one of the easiest things to change up for the different seasons and doesn’t require any additional space. I always switch out this print by our cutting board and create a printable that goes with our color scheme.
This year I made this Gnome for the Holidays printable, but I have lots of other free Christmas printables HERE that you can choose from.
I had originally made this Cozy Christmas Essentials printable for this space but ended up printing an 11×14 version and hanging it by our kitchen table. You can catch a glimpse of it in some of the other photos.
Dress up the sink.
Adding a pretty seasonal display by your sink makes washing dishes a little more fun and a lot cuter! I keep things pretty simple but even some greenery and snow covered pine cones makes a big impact. Add a cute holiday dish towel and you’re all set!
I also love changing up our dish soap and hand soap seasonally. It always feels more like Christmas with a little pine scent!
Create a Christmas centerpiece.
Putting together a centerpiece is one of my favorite things to do when it comes to seasonal decor. I have had this truck for a number of years, but I was getting tired of the red {you can see it in our kitchen HERE four years ago}. For a little change, I decided to paint it green to go with the rest of our decor this year, and had the idea to customize it.
I created a design and cut it out with my Cricut using white vinyl. The apostrophe got lost when I was weeding the vinyl, so I’ll need to add that with a paint pen. lol! I was pretty happy with how it turned out though. I’ll be writing up a post in the next couple of days with a few more details and I’ll share the cut file with you that you can customize with your own family name. In the interim, you can find lots of other Christmas centerpiece ideas HERE.
Put together a food or beverage bar.
Since we’re in the kitchen, what better way to decorate than with food!
This corner ended up being my Holly Jolly corner! We keep our tea bags and kettle in the cupboard above and below so I use this as a cute storage center. I also love frothed steamed milk so I have my frother and flavored syrups here as well.
I picked up the Holly Jolly houses from Sugar Milk Co. and thought they’d go perfectly with our Holly and Jolly Rae Dunn mugs.
The white cookie jar had a red lid, so I kept the lid off and used it to store some extra dish towels.
In addition to the dried oranges, I also put out some mandarin oranges as we go through these like crazy at this time of year. Plus, they go perfectly with our decor this year!
Design a chalkboard.
This chalkboard is another item that I’ve had in our kitchen for years. Sometimes I do a more elaborate design, and other times {like this Christmas!} I just keep it really simple. I was actually planning on doing something else, but my chalk pen had run out of ink and I just had a tiny piece of regular chalk left. For a brighter chalk design, the chalk pens definitely give better results.
I just made a simple snowflake design for this year and if I get lazy, I can leave it up until spring.
Turn on the glow.
The best part about Christmas decor is always the glow of the lights! I’m terrible at capturing this on camera, but I promise it looks a lot better in real life.
And that about wraps things up. To see more of our Christmas home tour, you can find our Christmas dining room decor here and I’ll be sharing our living room tomorrow!
