You don’t have to live and die by your smartphone in order to acknowledge that our devices (and particularly the apps on them) can do a lot to make our lives easier. Personally, I rely heavily on the Calendar app on my iPhone to remind me of just about anything I don’t want to forget, and I use my Audible app to entertain myself with audiobooks while I do the dishes, fold laundry, or work on other household tasks!
But recently I discovered a whole new category of apps that I didn’t even know existed previously—cleaning apps! After doing some research on the different apps that exist to help make housework easier, I thought I would share some of my favorites with you today! (After all, who couldn’t use a little help when it comes to housework?) :-)
So today I’m going to introduce you to a few of my new favorite cleaning apps, in the hopes that one (or more!) of them will make your life a little easier! And as always, if you have a favorite app that isn’t mentioned on this list, please share it with us in a comment at the end of this post!
5 Cleaning Apps That Will Make Your Life Easier
1. Laundry Day
In the never-ending battle to keep on top of the laundry, this app can make a useful ally! Use the Laundry Day app to “read” the labels on your clothing, and it will tell you how best to clean the item in simple language.
In my opinion, this app is brilliant in its simplicity and would make a useful tool in any laundry arsenal! While Laundry Day has less than 50 reviews on the Apple App Store, it carries a respectable 4.4-star rating and only costs 99 cents.
2. OurHome
If, like me, delegating household chores is not your strong suit, then the OurHome app could be your new favorite! OurHome allows you to easily create, assign, and track different chores among the members of your household, making it easy to hold everyone accountable.
Additionally, OurHome enables you to design your own incentive system to reward those who have completed their chores (or deduct rewards from those who haven’t.) It’s only fair that everyone does their part when it comes to household chores, and using OurHome can make the logistics much easier!
3. ThinkDirty
If avoiding harsh chemicals and using environmentally-friendly ingredients is important to you, the ThinkDirty app is for you! Use the app to scan the barcodes of your favorite cleaning products, either at home or while you’re out shopping, and it will alert you of any potential risks associated with that product or the ingredients in it.
While ThinkDirty was originally designed to offer information on beauty and personal care products, the addition of cleaning products to its database has made it even more useful. And with more than 22,000 reviews on the Apple App Store and an average rating of 4.8 stars, this is clearly an app that people love to use!
4. Spotless
The Spotless app is perfect for those of us who love checking off tasks on a list, as well as those who occasionally have trouble remembering when certain tasks were done last. It enables users to create task lists for multiple areas around the house (like the kitchen, living room, bedroom, etc.)
You can then use those lists to check off tasks as you finish them (so satisfying!), and Spotless will remember when that task was completed so you can look it up later if needed. You can even assign certain tasks to yourself or other household members, and set deadlines for when each task should be accomplished.
5. TaskRabbit
Maybe your struggle isn’t with getting organized or keeping track of things—maybe you just need an extra set of hands! Enter TaskRabbit, an app that connects you with skilled and vetted “Taskers” to help you tackle your to-do list. Popular TaskRabbit tasks include no-contact errands, delivery, shopping, cleaning, furniture assembly, and even moving.
A few months ago I used a similar app to hire someone to assemble a new recliner (and remove an old one) for my mother-in-law who lives in North Dakota. The whole process went so smoothly, and Dorothy loved having all the logistics taken care of beforehand. I’m sure the experience would have been just as positive through the TaskRabbit app, especially since they back up every task with their “Happiness Pledge!”
While I’m sure there are plenty more helpful cleaning and homemaking apps out there, these 5 are some of the best of the best I’ve learned about so far! They have already proven to be a big help to me in my housework, and I’m sure you’ll find them just as useful as I do!
Do you use any apps to help with cleaning or household chores?
