Several years ago at this point, I wrote a few posts about my efforts to reduce the amount of paper towels I was using around the house. Those posts sparked a lot of interesting discussions in the comments, and many of those comments were very insightful!
One of the standouts came from a woman named Denise, who cleaned 15-20 bathrooms every week for 20 years before beginning her well-deserved retirement. (I knew right away that I was dealing with a bathroom cleaning expert, because if doing something for 20 years doesn’t make you an expert, I don’t know what does!)
In her comment, Denise her own method for cleaning bathrooms quickly, efficiently, and with minimal waste. I was seriously impressed with how streamlined her process was, and asked her if could share her method in one of my blog posts. She very generously agreed, so we all owe Denise a big “Thank you!” for inspiring today’s post! :-)
As I told her at the time, I had never really come up with an efficient routine for cleaning the whole bathroom at once. But after adopting Denise’s method, I could clean my bathroom thoroughly in a fraction of the time it used to take.
In fact, this method is quick enough that you could include it in your everyday chores as frequently as you’d like! Give it a try for yourself, and I think you’ll like it as much as I do.

How To Clean Your Bathroom In 15 Minutes
You’ll need:
- Toilet brush
- Cleaning spray
- Microfiber cloth
- About 3 paper towels or flour sack towels
- An old bath towel (optional, see Bonus Tip below)
Directions:
Step 1 – Scrub
Apply a toilet bowl cleaner or all-purpose cleaner to your toilet bowl, and scrub with your toilet brush. (Learn more about my toilet brush of choice here.)
Flush, then prop the brush under the toilet seat to let it drip-dry.
Step 2 – Spray
Spray the toilet, sink, faucet, and countertop with your preferred cleaner/disinfectant. (My homemade lemon-scented vinegar is perfect for this!)
Step 3 – Wipe
Dampen a clean microfiber cloth, then wring it out a little bit so that it’s damp, but not dripping. Use the damp cloth to clean the mirror, then use it to “rinse” the cleaning spray from the countertop, faucet, and sink.
Step 4 – Dry
Use a couple of paper towels or a flour sack towel to dry the mirror, countertop, faucet, sink, and toilet, in that order. (You’ll be going from the cleanest thing to the dirtiest thing, which will save you a few paper towels.)
Use one last clean towel to buff a shine onto the mirror and faucet. Toss the paper towels (or put the dirty towels in your hamper) and put the toilet brush away.
Step 5 – Finishing Touches
Rinse the microfiber cloth well and wring it out again. Use it to spot clean the floor as necessary, or to wipe up any hair, dust, or dirt that’s hanging around.
Toss the dirty cloths into your hamper or washer, and you’re done!
I’m telling you… Denise has got this whole thing dialed in! Thanks again for sharing your wisdom and experience with all of us! :-)
What About The Tub/Shower?
- This quick and easy bathroom cleaning routine doesn’t address the bathtub or shower, so here are some simple tips that will help you keep them clean.
- Stash an old towel in your bathroom so you can use it to quickly dry off your shower walls after each use. It only takes a second, and it helps to prevent both water spots and soap scum buildup!
- When it’s time to deep-clean your tub and/or shower, use my homemade tub-and-shower cleaner to cut through soap scum and grime with ease!
