5 Useful Face Mask Hacks That You Need To Know About | One Good Thing by Jillee

mask tips

I can honestly say I never imagined that the day would come when we would all be wearing face masks to protect ourselves and others from illness, but here we are! While wearing a mask did feel a little strange at first, I don’t really mind it now. It helps keep us all safe and healthy, and it shows respect and appreciation for our healthcare professionals, essential workers, and our friends and neighbors within our communities.

While this practice was sparked by COVID-19, I can definitely see other times when wearing a mask could be helpful, like during cold and flu season, when traveling on planes (I always get sick on vacation), and during allergy season.

And since it looks like face masks are probably here to stay (at least for the foreseeable future), I thought it might be helpful to share some tips and tricks for making it a better experience overall!

So here are 5 creative face mask hacks that can make wearing a mask more functional and comfortable!

5 Creative & Useful Face Mask Hacks

mask tips

1. Keep Glasses Fog-Free

Glasses sit right up against your face, so it’s important to clean and disinfect them often. Germs could potentially transfer from the surface to your eyes, nose, or mouth and make you sick. To sanitize your glasses, wash them with warm, soapy water and let them air dry at least once daily, or after you’ve been out in public.

In addition to eliminating germs, this can also help stop your glasses from fogging up when you’re wearing a mask. The soap leaves behind a thin film that repels condensation from gathering on the lenses.

Another key to preventing foggy glasses when wearing a mask is making sure it fits correctly. The top of the mask should fit snugly against your nose and cheeks, and getting one with a flexible metal nose wire can help create a better “seal” between the mask and your nose.

2. Add A Fresh Scent

Add a drop of your favorite essential oil to your mask to boost your mood and energy levels throughout the day. (Lavender, peppermint, and eucalyptus oil are great options!)

3. Make Your Own Mask

Did you know you can make a quick and easy face mask with using only a bandana and a couple hair ties? All you have to do is fold up the bandana (you can even tuck a coffee filter tucked inside for extra protection) and use the hair ties to secure it around your ears. Brilliant!

4. Quick Fix For A Better Fit

If the ear loops on your mask are too big, it won’t rest securely against your face. To quickly fix the problem, criss-cross each loop before hooking them around your ears.

5. Avoid Ear Pain

Does wearing your mask lead to pain or sensitivity behind your ears? Instead of securing the loops behind your ears, hook them together with a paperclip around the back of your head. Or you can sew a button on each side of a hat or headband and hook the loops on those instead!
