Whenever I venture into stores these days, I’m almost overwhelmed by how many different types of beauty products there are for sale. My personal makeup routine has always been pretty streamlined, but I can easily imagine getting swept up in the “I need one of everything!” mentality.

But what a lot of people don’t realize is that many of the beauty products they already own have multiple different uses (even though they may not be common knowledge!) Learning about all the alternative and non-traditional uses for the products you have can help you get more bang for your buck, or even get rid of other products to simplify your collection.

So to those ends, today I’ll be sharing 13 common beauty products that you can use in multiple different ways. Whether you’re short on storage space, looking to save some money, or want to be prepared for a future beauty emergency, I’m sure you’ll find these tips as useful as I do!

13 Surprising Beauty Products With Multiple Uses

1. Lip Balm

In addition to keeping your lips soft and smooth, your trusty tube of lip balm can also soothe cracked cuticles, prevent blisters, minimize mess while you’re coloring your hair, tame flyaways and rogue brows, erase mascara smudges, and more!

2. Hairspray

There are plenty of useful things you can do with hairspray besides fixing flyaways. Spritzing your bobby pins with hairspray before putting them in will help keep them in place throughout the day.

You can also spray your tights before wearing them to prevent runs, spray freshly-painted fingernails to make the polish dry faster, or use it to tame unruly brows!

3. Vaseline

Vaseline (and my homemade non-petroleum version) can be a serious multitasker! Use it to keep lipstick off your teeth, or use it like mascara to define and add volume to your lashes.

You can also use Vaseline to relieve razor burn, mask split ends, and give matte lipstick a glossy finish. Get more details and learn about other uses for Vaseline here.

4. Toothbrush

I like to keep a few inexpensive toothbrushes in my bathroom to use for less conventional purposes. A toothbrush can come in handy for gently exfoliating your lips, separating and fanning your lashes, and even when re-dyeing your roots! (Use a separate toothbrush for each of these, and preferably not the one you use to clean your teeth!) ;-)

5. BB Cream

Your favorite multi-purpose BB cream just got even more useful! Applying a bit of BB cream to your legs when wearing skirts and dresses will highlight the definition and make them look long, lean, and shimmery!

You can also apply a bit of BB cream around your collarbone to achieve a similar effect when wearing shirts with lower necklines.

6. Mascara

Your mascara can double as an eyeliner if you know this easy trick! Place your mascara wand at the base of your lashes, but instead of sweeping up, move the wand side to side. This creates an artfully smudged eyeliner effect without actually using eyeliner.

7. Coconut Oil

You might already use coconut oil as a conditioning hair mask or as a moisturizer, but you can also use it to help nourish your lashes! Use a clean mascara wand to apply coconut oil to your lashes (and brows, if desired) to moisturize, strengthen, and promote growth—no expensive serums required!

8. Concealer

If you ever run out of or misplace your foundation, your concealer can make a handy substitute in a pinch! Just apply a bit of concealer to the back of your hand and mix it with a bit of moisturizer.

Use a sponge or brush to apply the concealer mixture like a foundation, and voila! Beauty crisis averted. :-)

9. Eyeshadow

Mix a bit of powder from your favorite shade of eyeshadow with a small amount of Vaseline to create a custom lip color! The color options are endless, and it’s a great way to use up eyeshadows you don’t often wear on your eyes.

10. Body Wash

In a pinch, a good moisturizing body wash (whether store-bought or homemade) makes a fine substitute for shaving cream. Why spend the extra money or make a special trip to the store for shaving cream if you don’t have to?

11. Eyebrow Pencil

Did you know your brow pencil can do double-duty as an eyeliner? The brown shade of your brow pencil is perfect for daytime looks, and it can make a nice change of pace if you typically opt for black eyeliner.

12. Translucent Powder

A translucent powder comes in handy for setting makeup and creating a flawless matte finish, but you can also use it to add extra volume to your lashes! Just dust a bit of powder into your lashes, then apply mascara as usual to make your lashes look larger and fuller instantly.

13. Blush

Both cream and powder blushes can be used in multiple different ways to achieve different effects. One popular option is to use the same blush on both your cheeks and eyes to create a chic monochromatic look. You can also use a blush as lip color (or vice versa!)
