Due to a combination of Dupuytren’s contracture and run-of-the-mill arthritis, I deal with achy hands on an almost daily basis. And while over-the-counter pain relievers do help control the pain, I would easily exceed the dosage recommendations if I took them every time my hands were bothering me!
But luckily for me, I have a secret weapon I can use to treat those localized aches and pains whenever my hands are bothering me: my homemade pain relieving cream! Not only is completely natural and safe to use, but it’s also a cinch to make.
I originally shared this recipe several years ago, after I stumbled across it while seeking solutions for my son Kell’s growing pains. This cream really helped to dull the aches he was feeling in his muscles and spine, and today, it’s doing the same for me with my sore and aching hands!
I’ve tweaked the recipe for this cream a bit since I first shared it, so I wanted to share my newer, more streamlined recipe with you in today’s post. This version gets its pain relieving power from Restore Essential Oil Blend, which features several soothing and cooling essential oils including camphor, peppermint, ylang ylang, helichrysum, and more.
Here’s how you can make your own natural pain relieving cream at home!
How To Make A Homemade Pain Relieving Cream
Ingredients:
1/2 cup coconut oil
2 tsp beeswax pellets
15 drops Restore Essential Oil Blend
Directions:
Start by melting the coconut oil and beeswax together in a double boiler. (If you don’t have one at home, a heat-safe bowl perched on top of a pan of simmering water will work just as well!)
Stir the oil and wax occasionally until everything is melted and well combined. Next, remove the oil and wax mixture from heat and allow it to cool for about 5 minutes or so.
Add the essential oils to the oil and wax and stir once more. Pour the finished mixture into a storage container with an airtight lid, like a glass jar.
Wait until the cream has set and cooled completely before using.
How To Use It
Scoop some of the cream out of the container and apply it to the site of any aches and pains. The warmth from your skin and hands will heat up the cream and make it smooth and spreadable.
And give yourself a relaxing mini massage while you’re at it, or better yet, recruit a helper who’s willing to do it for you! :-)
